About Us

Accountable to
the mission. Full stop.

Uncivilised Media is a CIC based in Bolton. The legal structure is the substance. It means the money stays in the mission, the content stays independent, and the doors stay open to the people who need them.

Mission & Values

Why we exist.

We watched too many important projects settle for a shaky phone video because nothing else was affordable. Good storytelling shifts what people believe is real. The organisations doing the hardest work deserve the same tools as the ones with marketing budgets.

Excellence
Delivering high-quality, meaningful projects regardless of budget or client contribution level.
Integrity
Acting honestly and transparently in all interactions with clients, funders, and communities.
Collaboration
Working respectfully with participants, volunteers, and community partners. We amplify, not dictate.
Accountability
Taking responsibility for decisions and outcomes. Transparent reporting to all stakeholders.
Creativity
Using creative media to engage, inspire, and empower. Not just to document.

Legal Structure

The legal structure
that makes this real.

A CIC limited by guarantee. That means: annual Community Interest Reports, asset lock, no distribution to founders. These aren't aspirational. They're legally binding.

The Asset Lock

All assets remain within the CIC framework. In the event of dissolution, assets transfer to another CIC or charitable organisation. Never to founders or commercial entities.

Editorial Independence

No funder, partner, or commercial entity influences our content or conclusions. This is a structural commitment, not a policy preference.

Financial Controls

  • No single team member can approve expenditure above £1,000
  • Contracts above £5,000 require dual senior oversight approval
  • Grant funds are ring-fenced for specific project activities

The Team

Senior Oversight.

Safeguarding Policy

Protecting every
participant.

Safeguarding takes precedence over any operational or reputational consideration. This applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors, and participants involved in any Uncivilised Media project.

Key Principles

  • All participants have the right to be safe and treated with respect
  • Any concerns about abuse, harassment, or exploitation will be taken seriously and reported
  • We promote a culture of openness, transparency, and accountability

Staff & Volunteer Responsibilities

  • All staff complete a safeguarding briefing before working with participants
  • Enhanced DBS checks are mandatory for all staff working with children or vulnerable adults
  • All concerns must be reported immediately to the Project Lead

Reporting Procedure

  • Concerns reported immediately to the Project Lead
  • Serious concerns escalated to the relevant local authority or statutory body
  • Confidentiality maintained except where disclosure is required to protect participants
